Council Minutes 3/11/15

• 1. Approval of Minutes

  2. Reports

     • (Mod): Doctors, nurses and Mr. Campbell will be discussin condoms soon.

     • (A-Mod): Notification of Principal Response Bylaw Revision next week.

     • (PR): Talk to all your friends about Council and condoms.

     • (OEC): Finalized election schedule.

     • (Curric): More work on the course concern form.

     • (COI): Webinar on a new educational aid/platform.

     • (RJ): Worked on presentation to DSB.

     • (SA): Motion to allocate $150 of co-curricular funds to the Women in STEM Club. Motion passes.

     • (Sec): Staff alternate can vote, great committee attendance.

  3. Political Poster Motion

     • Motion to to prohibit the display of political posters by the school.

     • A locker is personal expression, so can students decorate there?

     • Are we reducing freedom of speech and personal expression?

     • The Opinion Board exists for a reason.

     • This will protect a minority view.

     • The mural in question is just art and not a political message.

     • We should strive to be politically neutral but not in this way.

     • This motion itself is a symptom of the oppression of political minorities.

     • The mural in question was not used as campaigning material.
