Council Minutes 9/17/14

• 1. Approval of Minutes

  2. Reports

     • (Mod): Open house tomorrow [later cancelled].

     • (DSB): Meeting next week, no agenda yet.

  3. Homework Assignment Motion

     • “I move that all homework and required materials must be assigned and made available in class. Any supplementary online materials that do not directly affect the assignment may be posted any time thereafter.”

     • This is a widespread problem.

     • Using websites instead of class time.

     • Extensions can still be given.

     • Worried about shortage of time for teachers.

     • Is this more of a supervision (dept. coordinator) issue?

     • Internet should be beneficial resource.

     • Amendment: “All homework must be assigned and made available by the end of the class period. Any supplementary online materials that do not directly affect the assignment may be posted any time thereafter”

     • Reasonable.

     • Does not deal with different periods of same course.

     • Student’s responsibility to find assignment.

     • Amendment to the amendment: “All homework must be assigned and made available by the end of the class period. Any modification related to the next day’s assignment must be made available 15 minutes after the school day ends.”
