• • Mod: Be timely to Council meetings!

  • A-Mod: When speaking, try to project so we can all hear. Look at moderator when speaking, especially while in debate.

  • Treasurer: Council fund = $6,369.31. Will go down when propane is bought for grill. Co-curricular fund = $5,200. Reminder that Council members are responsible for recycling in Common Grounds.

  • DSB: Discussion about high school quality indicators. New project idea projects such as turf. All March Intensive courses got passed. Approve winter coaches for next season.

  • PR: Please send ideas about ways to update Council bulletin board.

  • Secretary: No alternates can vote.

  • Curric: Discussion about midterms.

  • OEC: Reviewed bylaws.

  • SAC: Next Quidditch match next week.

  • SL: Reviewed cell-phone survey feedback. Even distribution among staff and students for responses. Majority of students said cell-phone use in the classroom was not problematic. Majority also believe cell-phones should not be completely banned from classrooms, but should not be taken away if not on person.

  • CPP: Portal will be closed Friday after the quarter ends. Gives teachers an opportunity to put in comments without students seeing. Interesting to look at how students do without portal for four days.

3. Course Evaluation Standardization Motion

• • Teachers should be able to see student feedback on teacher’s course.

  • There is a separate teacher evaluation, so questions should specifically target course.

  • Filter through the Administration, but is necessary for teachers to have access in order to make improvements.

I move the motion to read that “Results will be shared with respective Department Heads, teachers and the Administration.”

• • Mr. Campbell believes teachers are a crucial part.

  • Motion Passes

  • Don’t understand what Administration is trying to address with questionnaire.

  • Administration interested in looking at larger trends for classes.

  • “This class made me interested in further exploring the topics we covered” and “I enjoyed the time I spent in this class” are not necessary because some people are not interested in some topics and will not be changed by course, so not a good evaluation question of the course. Looking at personal interest. More useful information would be asking if student gains valuable information from class versus enjoying it.

I move to strike “this class made me interested in further exploring the topics we covered” and replace “enjoyed” to “benefited from”

• • Benefiting from a class is much more important than enjoying a class. Student can not enjoy a class and can still benefit from a class.

  • Value in having both questions because both are important.

  • Motion Passes

I move to add another question to read “I enjoyed the time I spent in this class.”

• • Previous discussion states that this question is important and should be included.

  • Motion Passes

  • While teacher may be looking to use comments, department heads and Administration will not be able to use comments.

  • Having one survey per day may allow it to be easier for students. No wording specifically for time frame of survey

I move to unstrike the “comments” section.

• • Teachers have ability to have comment section on teacher survey.

  • Standardization of course evaluations important. Students will have comments for classes, even if they are later in the day if they have strong comments.

I move to defer the motion to the Curriculum Committee.
