Community Service Graduation Requirement Motion
“I move to make the following amendments: 1. add "at least" before "10 hours of community service,” 2. strike "Each student is required to participate in 10 hours of community service per full year of HHS attendance.", and add "By graduation, students will have totaled 10 hours of community service per full year of HHS attendance."3. strike "and" and change to "or" 4. An amendment that defines the word "organization" 5. strike "; students can use Youth In Action or other external platforms" 6. strike "for Youth In Action and no more than one other organization" and add "through Youth In Action and/or for other organizations" 7. Strike the clause "others or" 8. Replace all uses of the word "organization" with "nonprofit organization"
We would prefer passing this without amending it and then consider it as the main motion and make amendments to it as the main motion
Sections could be voted on separately
If you didn’t get your ten hours per year you would be put on a list and put in the summer program organized by YIA to try and complete your hours and any hours left over will be rolled into the next year
Five hours have to be official and those can be through YIA or through other organizations when they would have to go through the letter process and the other five can be on an honor code basis where you fill out and sign a form. The unofficial hours could include things like mowing a neighbor's lawn. If ten hours were done through YIA, you would be all set because those would be automatically recorded.
