Community Service Graduation Requirement Motion
Lebanon Council passed a very similar motion but it was stopped in the Administration after debate
“I move to amend point 1 under the “Community Service Section” to read ‘Each student is required to participate in at least 10 hours of community service each full year of HHS attendance.”’
Amendment Passes
Concerns from Guidance about what will be required from them for implementation
Problem with YIA getting funding to support the additional hours they will be supporting
YIA has the capacity to do well over 1,000 now and if students are initiating their own projects we can be a conduit
There should be wording explaining the process of getting service sanctioned by YIA because right now it isn’t clear
This motion doesn’t give much responsibility to guidance so it shouldn’t be more additional work then just speaking to the noncompliant students because the Service Ad Hoc would be compiling the hours and the list of those students
“I move to amend the motion under point 3, subpoint a to read “Any service organized or sanctioned by Youth In Action”’
Attempting to clarify that hours can be sanctions by YIA
Amendment Passes
It is an easy way to involve YIA but they are an organization that is not affiliated with Hanover High School for a graduation requirement presents sustainability concerns
